A chap tentatively admiring the view from the central southern tower from which picture 11 is taken. Please note the view of the south-east corner of the exterior walls - and the hill on which the castle is located, and the valley below - the Buqai'ah valley, in which the Franks repelled the advances of the Sultan of Damascus in 1163.
NB. These southern walls were immediately rebuilt by the Arabs in 1271 having been destroyed by them in the seige in which they evicted the Crusaders.

View towards the Crusader chapel. On the very left of the picture one can see the top of the glacis visible from below on picture 4. On the left we see the roof of the large room and interior court, and left of centre we see the flat roof of the corridor (see picture 7). Just above this is the flat roof of the Crusader chapel. In the centre of the picture we can see people walking on the 'Esplanade', the raised yard above the Pillars Room.
