Having been brought up in the Thornlow School building, on Connaught Road in Weymouth, I became fascinated with the idea of researching its complex history. The first of the family of schools to bear the name of Thornlow was at least 27 years old before moving from its original location to Weymouth in 1912. The study of the institution encroaches on educational history, and the local history of Weymouth. My research, carried out in the local libraries and museums, at the Dorset Records Office, the Public Records Office at Kew, and by interviews with ex-pupils and staff, has served to deepen my interest in Thornlow and Weymouth history.

As a result of this, I have written a book on the history of the school and how the major events of the twentieth century impacted upon it. The book (with 108 pages printed on high quality paper) is wirobound to allow for the correct distribution of colour pages, and it contains over eighty black and white and colour photographs representing the school throughout the last century.
